* Klass Kote epoxy primer paint / filler is a 2 part catalyzed system. It consists of component A and B. They are mixed together in a ratio of: 1-to-1 by volume.
* Mix each component separately and thoroughly until completely smooth and any clumps are completely dissolved. Use any or all of shaking, mixing machine, hand stir, etc.
* After components are mixed thoroughly, allow mixture to set (induct) for a minimum of 30 minutes before proceeding. Longer induction periods are also OK
* If reducing, add ample Epoxy Reducer #500 to get to a good viscosity for your spray equipment. STRAIN mixture into spray equipment.
* To seal metals: apply 2 thin coats allowing it to flash off between coats. Flash off is complete when surface looks dull and not wet. Allow 24 hours to cure before proceeding.
* Warmer temperatures will significantly reduce cure times
* Sand surface with 80 to 120 grit sand paper by hand or machine sand.
* Apply body fillers to finish body work. Make sure any body work is finished with 80 – 120 grit or finer sand paper.
* If you are applying over fiberglass surface, start applying as a filler for block sanding
* After body work is finished apply up to 5 coats as needed, letting flash-off in between coats.
* Let cure 24 to 48 hours depending on your shop conditions
* After cured no less than 48 hours – you’re able to block sand
Klass Kote Epoxy Auto Primer paint is mainly intended to be sprayed on surfaces and will fill very slight sand scratches or other tiny surface blemishes. You may choose to brush-apply it – but be careful not to build it up too thick trying to fill larger scores and imperfections. Instead, choose a suitable body filler / sealer product.
Klass Kote Epoxy Primer requires significant times to achieve ample drying before block sanding, and therefore is NOT intended for production use. It should be used in cases where a high build, epoxy primer is needed for the most durable primer coats available.
Klass Kote Epoxy auto primer paint is used to rustproof and waterproof surfaces, and therefore protect bare metal from oxidation and rusting problems. Our Zinc Phosphate-based primers are excellent choices for surfaces where moisture and rusting are concerns such as automotive surface priming. It is best to apply Klass Kote Epoxy auto primer paint to bare metal – once the old paint and any rust has been removed, and before you apply any other product.
- Klass Kote Epoxy Auto Primer Paint contains high solids, usually 2 coats are all that are required to fill minor scores and imperfections on the surface.
- Auto Primer Paint is waterproof and protects bare sheet metal from rusting.
- Unmixed components will keep for 10’s of years if lids are replaced tightly after use.
- Klass Kote Epoxy Auto Primer Paint offers excellent adhesion to metal and serve as a perfect first-on-metal primer / sealer.
- You can apply body filler directly to the bare metal and then seal repaired area with Klass Kote epoxy high build primer paint
- In many cases, Klass Kote Epoxy Auto primer paint will not require sanding after it’s been applied and allowed to cure properly.
- Klass Kote Epoxy Auto Primer Paint can be dry or wet sanded with fine-grit sandpaper to smooth out any surface blemishes. You can then touch-up spots with a new coat of material if required, and re-sand to desired smoothness.
- Klass Kote Epoxy Auto Primer Paint can be top-coated with almost any type of top coat.
- If you are living / working in a regions with exceptionally harsh corrosion conditions (such as Minnesota – where during winter months there is always plenty of salt put onto the roads), you can maximize oxidation, rust and corrosion protection by applying our catalyzed epoxy auto primer paint to bare metal and then do the same over any subsequent primer undercoats.
- Klass Kote Epoxy Auto Primer Paint also adheres well to fiberglass automotive body parts and surfaces.
- Klass Kote Epoxy high build primer has high solid content and covers tiny surface imperfections, allowing you to sand the coated surfaces to smooth heaven!
Whatever you do, never confuse high build primer with body fillers. The materials used in body fillers offer a lot more strength and durability than do our high build primers. Use them as needed.
