Klass Kote Epoxy White Primer #55 is the side-A epoxy component of the Klass Kote Epoxy 2-part epoxy primer/sealer coating system. It requires equal parts [by volume] of the part-B catalyst component, either Primer Catalyst White Fast #420 (recommended) or, in cases where slower dry times are ok, Primer Catalyst #415. The same side-A primer/sealer is also available in Gray – Klass Kote Epoxy Gray Primer #55.
When using White Primer #55 with Primer Catalyst #415, first – thoroughly mix equal parts [by volume] of the two components and allow them to “induct” – let stand for a minimum of 30 – 45 minutes. If using Primer Catalyst White Fast #420, no induction (waiting) period is required.
After mixing, Klass Kote White Primer #55 applies like any other conventional primer coating. It can be brushed, rolled, or spray-applied. If you plan to spray-apply, you will need to thin your A & B mixture to reduce it to spray viscosity by adding some Epoxy Reducer #500. Add the reducer after the mixture has completed inducting which is required only with Primer Catalyst #415.
Klass Kote White Primer #55 & Gray Primer #50 are high solids, catalyzed primers with excellent filling capabilities. They have been extensively field tested since 1964 on a host of varied substrates. Both White Primer #55 and Gray Primer #50 contain Zinc Phosphate as the anti-corrosive agent. On the ASTM B-117 test for rust creep-age away from x-scribe on a steel panel, Gray Primer #50 rated 10 on a scale of 0-10. (0-worst, 10-best), while White Primer #55 rated a 9.
These products are designed to be the first primer applied to bare substrates. White Primer #55 must be catalyzed with Klass Kote Primer Catalyst White Fast #420, while Gray Primer #50 can be catalyzed with either Primer Catalyst White Fast #420 or Primer Catalyst #415 – based on cure schedule requirements and shop conditions.
